TRUE NORTH FAQ

WHAT IS TRUE NORTH?
True North is NANY's launch event and inaugural showcase. We are bringing together Nordic and Baltic artists of all disciplines for a one-night-only celebration of Nordic creativity in New York.

WHO'S ORGANIZING IT?
True North is NANY's launch event and inaugural showcase,  but also a unique collaboration between different Nordic and Baltic art organizations in New York. Our amazing partners include Finlandia Foundation NYMC, Estonian Educational Society, Scandinavian American Theatre Company, Nordic International Film Festival and many more!

WHAT KIND OF ART IS INCLUDED?
Short answer: all the kinds.
To make things simple, we have roughly divided all True North works of art into two categories:
Performing arts including music, dance, spoken word, theatre, etc.
Visual arts including paintings, photography, film, handicrafts and anything that isn’t a human in-person.

IS THIS A COLLABORATION?
“Yes, and.”
YES: True North is all about collaboration - between Nordic and Baltic artists, between artforms, and between art organizations.
So, this is a perfect time to dust off old partnerships and create new ones! Reach out to Nordic or Baltic artists you may have collaborated with in the past, or perhaps create something from scratch for this occasion with another Nordic artist!
AND: If your art is a stand-alone piece, don’t worry - we are dreaming up very cool immersive spaces where separate artworks meet and complement each other around similar themes.

WILL PERFORMERS GET PAID?
Yes. True North is a paid showcase opportunity. However, as we are a volunteer-run non-profit, our compensation might not be similar to those that big orgs can provide. We hope to make up for it with great connections, a combined audience reach of new fans  AND you’re more than welcome to sell artworks and merch at the event!

We are still working out the exact amounts for artist compensation, but if it’s important for you to get an estimate now, please contact us directly (we get it!). We also hope to be able to offer a small stipend to visual artists.

CAN I SELL MY ART OR MERCH AT THE EVENT?
Yes, you can and you should! Just keep these details in mind:
- Visual artists: since your exhibited work is already for sale (unless otherwise agreed), please don't bring other artworks as we have no place to store them. You are however welcome to bring/sell postcards, stickers, QR-codes, etc. to help people buy your art outside the event.
- Performers: When bringing albums/merch keep these details in mind:
- Space at the venue is limited, so only bring a reasonable amount you think you might be able to sell and a QR code to your online store for the rest.
- You are responsible for your own merch (and any money paid for it). "Not us. Not the venue. You!" (in Hermione voice).Mmkay?

CAN MY FRIEND/MOM/FWB GET A FREE TICKET?
Unfortunately not. Only performers get free access. We do recommend you ask them to shark Early Bird tickets though, which are discounted, by joining our newsletter!

WHAT'S THE DRESS CODE?
No dresscode, but treat it like a community celebration! Wear whatever best reflects your artistry/brand.

WHEN AND WHERE IS IT AGAIN?
Earth Day April 22nd, 6 PM New York Estonian House (243 East 34th Street, New York, NY 10016)
Please be advised that most performers will be requested to come do blocking/soundcheck earlier in the day. Exact timeline of the day TBD.
